In this article, you will learn about how to install CentOS 7 on Oracle virtual box
CentOS is an open-source product of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
you can download it from its official website https://www.centos.org/download/
let's get started with the installation:
Pre-requisite for the installation
1) Oracle Virtual Box
2) CentOS ISO Image
3) 10GB minimum HDD
4) memory minimum of 2GB
Creating the Virtual Machine:
open the virtual box and click on new then provide the Name for your machine and folder name as mention above in the screenshot then click next
Give the memory for your machine then click next
Here in the next step, you have 3 options as you can see in the screenshot choose "create a virtual hard disk now" if you are creating fresh, or choose "use an existing virtual HD file" if you want to use the old virtual hard disk, and click "create"
Choose VHD and next
Choose the fixed size and click next
Give the location where to store and size of the virtual machine and click create
After the above step virtual machine is created now we need to attach the CentOS ISO image to the virtual machine and start the installation process
You can attach the ISO image by click on settings and navigate to storage as above and to your right side click as shown in the above screenshot attach the ISO image from your machine or laptop then click ok
Let's begin the installation of CentOS 7 :
Click on start on the Virtual Machine
Press enter
Select the Language the click continue, after click continue you will find a window where you need to configure Date & time, software selection, partitioning, network as shown below in the screenshot
Click on installation media and select auto-detected and click done
Click on Software selection select server with GUI and click done
Select installation destination for the partitioning of the disk as above
as per your convenience in the above, I have chosen "I will configure partitioning" and created the mount point as shown in the below SS.
After creating the mount point click on done and a window will appear then select "Accept Changes".
Click on Network and HostName to configure the network settings
Now provide the hostname and if you have DHCP enable click please enable the ethernet as above or if you want to configure the manually please select configure from the above SS and fill the information like IP, DNS server, gateway, and netmask as below then click done.
After configuration of the network click on begin installation and it will start the installation process meanwhile you can provide the password for the root user and can create the user as below seen in the SS.
Now reboot the server after installation is complete
Here accept the license agreement and click done
So the installation of CentOS 7 on the virtual box is successfully done.
